Stitchhold is a row counter for knitting and crochet. It works with no account and no internet connection. Everything you count is stored on your own iPhone or iPad; with Stitchhold Pro you can choose to sync it through your own iCloud.
I bought Pro and it isn't unlocked
Open Stitchhold, reach the purchase screen and tap Restore a previous purchase at the bottom. Purchases belong to the Apple Account that made them, so make sure the device is signed in to the same account you used to buy. Pro is bought once for iPhone and iPad.
If nothing is restored, the App Store may be unreachable at that moment. Counting is not affected, so you can keep working and try again later. If it still doesn't restore, write to almazic91@gmail.com with the date of the purchase and the email of your Apple Account (we don't need the receipt).
Where are my projects stored?
On your device, inside the app. If you turn on Continue on iPhone and iPad (part of Pro), a copy also goes to the private iCloud of your own Apple Account, so your other iPhone or iPad can continue the same project. Your projects are never sent to us; see the privacy policy.
Without syncing, your projects exist on that one device: deleting the app deletes them. An iPhone or iPad backup (iCloud Backup or an encrypted backup to a computer) includes the app's data, so restoring that backup brings your projects with it.
The same project was changed on two devices
Stitchhold shows both versions and asks which one to keep. It can also keep them as separate projects. Nothing is merged or thrown away without your choice.
The app opened and said it couldn't open the file
That screen means the database file did not open and that Stitchhold has not erased anything. The original files are kept aside, and the screen offers two things:
- Save a copy for checking. Do this first if your count matters. The copy can be sent to almazic91@gmail.com, and in many cases the rows can be read out of it.
- Start a new file. It gives you an empty, working app so you can keep counting today. Starting a new file doesn't delete the old files.
The count didn't change when I tapped
Stitchhold shows a new number only after the row has been written to disk. If a write fails, a message appears at the top of the screen instead of the number quietly changing, so the number you see is always the number that is saved. If you ever see that message, please write to almazic91@gmail.com and say what the device was doing at the time (storage full, low battery, app closed).
How do I put my pattern in?
Tap "+" on the work screen and choose "Instruction…". Paste your pattern, type it or photograph the page: each line becomes one step. Numbers Stitchhold recognises ("rows 1–8", "six times") are offered as suggestions; nothing is applied until you confirm, and nothing is saved until you tap "Save". Afterwards the line you are on, the row inside it and the next line appear above the count.
A step with no number of rows, such as "work to the length you need", holds your place for as long as you need. When you have knitted enough, tap "Step done".
How do I use a chart?
Attach the chart page (a PDF, a photo or the camera) and mark its first and last row once. A band then sits on your row and moves on with every "Row done". You can leave a bookmark on the stitch you knit next and draw on the chart with your finger.
What are the numbers under the next row?
Turn on Count identical cells in the chart view settings (the sliders icon). Stitchhold then shows how many neighbouring cells of the next row are drawn the same, in the order you knit them. It counts cells in the picture, not stitches, and only on charts with a clear square grid. When it isn't sure, it shows no numbers instead of guessing.
Does Stitchhold count out loud or track yarn?
No. It counts rows, keeps your place in your pattern and on your chart, keeps several counters in one project, repeats a range of rows and shows notes on the row they belong to.
Can I turn off usage statistics?
Yes. Open Help (the question mark) and turn off Send usage statistics; Stitchhold then sends nothing. The statistics never include your patterns, charts, project names or row numbers. See the privacy policy for the full list.
Refunds
Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by us: reportaproblem.apple.com. A refund removes Pro access the next time the app checks. Your projects and counts are not touched.
